Our Environmental Policy

We want to be crystal clear on where we stand on environmental and social issues. We're as fed up with greenwashing as you are. Unlike giant faceless corporations, The Lonely Dinosaur consists of just two people, which brings new meaning to the term “corporate responsibility”. Our business reflects our ideals, and we know that we can and will held personally accountable for our choices as a business.

Our Commitment:

The Lonely Dinosaur has been 100% Organic since it's inception in 2008. In November of 2009, we switched to 100% Sweatshop-free, Made in the USA t-shirts, with US grown Organic Cotton. Without raising our price. We're extremely proud of this development, because it is what we've always wanted our t-shirts to be. We are now able to offer our Made in the USA, organic shirts for the same price as non organic, imported shirts. We promise to use the most environmentally and socially responsible materials available to us, as they become available. If you know of a way we can be greener, let us know!

Organic Cotton:

Every single shirt we send out is 100% Ring-Spun (means soft!) Organic cotton. People often ask us what exactly “Organic” means in this sense, since almost everything is branded as organic, or all-natural, or “eco” these days. A shirt is certified organic if it has been made out of cotton grown in fields that have been chemical fertilizer and pesticide free for over three years. Most chemical pesticides and fertilizers are actually derived directly from fossil fuels, and can be highly toxic. People sometimes ask if it's worth it: cotton takes a lot of resources to grow whether or not it's organic. We say YES, IT IS WORTH IT! Think of Organic Cotton as a Prius compared to a Hummer: it uses fewer resources and even though it still runs on some gas, it uses a heck of a lot less.

Social Responsibility.

All of our shirts are Sweatshop Free. As of right now, 90% of our internet stock is also Made in the USA. The rest are left over from before we made the switch, and were sewn in Canada or Honduras, in certified factories. This is why we don't yet advertize that our shirts are Made in the USA, although the vast majority are. We believe that Made in the USA is something very important- especially now. It saves on carbon emissions from shipping the shirts around the world, it guarantees fair labor practices, and it keeps money in the US economy, where we need it.

I hope I have made clear what we are trying to do here. Eric and I are doing exactly what we would be doing if we were millionaires anyway- printing t-shirts, traveling, and generally messing around- so we don't feel the need to exploit anything or anyone to increase our profits. We believe we can make money in a way that makes us feel good. And, well, so far, so good. If you have any comments or questions about all this, shoot us an email at LonelyDinosaurDesigns@gmail.com
